David McKenny

David grew up in the Suffolk countryside and discovered gamelan aged 12. He studied music at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London and later at ISI Surakarta Arts Conservatoire in Central Java. An experienced gamelan musician, David performs regularly in Java, the UK and Europe with groups such as the Southbank Gamelan Players and Siswa Sukra. As a dhalang (shadow puppeteer) student, David is studying with Ki Sri Joko Raharjo and is developing Wayang shadow theatre performance, education and community arts projects in the UK and Europe.
